Romeo Dallaire PS Documentary

A day in the life of a grade 8

Romeo Dallaire PS Documentary

We were provided funding through the Ontario Arts Council for the 2013-2014 school year to do 5 different video projects within the Durham District School Board. Each school received 20 hours of Colin and Carla’s time where they taught students about film making, shared their story as a self employed artist and brought in lots of video gear. Romeo Dallaire PS was one of the schools we worked with. Students learned about filmmaking techniques, camera angles, lighting and then they filmed their own documentary. We decided to make the film about a ‘day in the life of a grade 8 student’. Students filmed their peers in each of their classes, conducted interviews and then handed all their footage over to us. All of the material was shot by the students and the final film was edited by Empty Cup Media.
These projects are a lot of work but are incredibly rewarding. With each group there are always a handful of students who thrive with video projects and we’re there to nurture their enjoyment.
