Lift – Drone & Macro

What an age to be a filmmaker! Flying cameras and wide angle macro lenses are some of the coolest pieces of equipment we have ever worked with. In 2021 we bought the DJI Mini2 drone (249g) and after watching a few tutorials and decades of gaming Colin had the gusto to get the drone in the air. So far he’s used it for golf courses, travelling cooking shows, garden tours and a lot more. We have access to a good flying spot on the Trent Severn Waterway and it’s been a really great space to practice some of the fine motor skills needed for smooth shooting.

This year also brought us the Laowa 24mm Probe lens which is the most bizarre looking lens we have ever owned. It’s long and thin so it can be put veeeeery close to something without the camera body casting a shadow on it. Colin used his table top gizmo that he built himself to get the camera really close to the ground so he could film any tiny thing growing around the garden.

“Lift” is a montage of cottage country shots with our drone and probe lens. It looks at the same space from 120m off the ground to less than 1″ away. Enjoy!
