Professors of Funk Xmas Show

Every year Derek Giberson and the Professors of Funk host an Xmas concert at Simcoe United Church to raise money around the Christmas season. They attract incredible local talent to put on a 90 minute concert. The lights are all done by Jason Williams from Know Tek Productions and they made these photos possible because of their beautiful and textured lighting set up. These were shot with a Canon 5D mark iii with a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, Canon 24mm f/1.4, Canon 50mm f/1.4, Helios 85mm f/1.5 and Canon 135mm f/2.0.

When Covid-19 shut down the Professors of Funk show in 2020, they opted for a virtual show. Derek had an incredible ambitious video idea in lieu of the live show. Each of the 9 band members recorded themselves playing their instrument to their recording. Then they sent their files to Colin who would edit it together “Brady Bunch style”. Derek also wanted a real time talk through of the Back Door Mission during most of the music video so Carla Sinclair and Derek choreographed a 3 minute long tracking video shot throughout the entire building to show how many social services are available. So the 6+ minute video features dozens of volunteers and the 9 band members of the Proffs and a whack load of pre-planning. Colin did the filming and the editing of the music video. Enjoy!
