Rave Photography

Rave Photography

I photographed a lot of drag before I moved to the Kootenays. It was colourful, dynamic, eccentric and bold. But in Nelson, the drag scene is pretty small. There is a rich burlesque community here but spontaneously bringing a camera to those shows is frowned upon. I can understand why. So I felt a bit lost when I was trying to find a replacement for my drag photography.

And then I met this incredible group of people in Creston who introduced me to rave music and their change parties. Now, I’m looking to take photos at more raves and music festivals. People there are in rad and sexy festival outfits, they’re comfortable with themselves, they move their bodies, they smile and they’re interested in having their outfits documented. Being at raves allows me to wear my own sexy outfits and change multiple times throughout the night, which is right up my alley.

Here are some photos from a few small jams I’ve attended with my camera and some lighting tricks.
